Fairmont Hotel Vancouver & EDG Interior Architecture + Design won the 'Play' Honor Award from IIDA for the design of Notch8 Restaurant & Bar. The restaurant was designed as an homage to the past romance of rail travel, and the hotel's history as a grand Canadian Pacific railway hotel. The name Notch 8 is a term indicating the top gear available to a train engineer and the pinnacle position that can be achieved while in operation. Notch8 is a “notch above”.
